From Bob Spicer, Cleveland, Ohio - So far this year the sailing has been great. We have been out several times so far. We even got in some big wind days. We have had some great adventures. There has been a couple capsizes, 360 in the slip, and a dive over the side to stop a hot docking. We even got the GPS to think we were doing 11 knots one day! It felt like 20.
Here are a few pictures. We still hope to have a group sail on 8/23/08. Wish us luck.

Long Island Mirror nears completion
I don't know if Richard Larson will thank me for posting this but if this isn't an inspirational picture I don't know what is. 70369 nears completion with a launch date set for next week. Look at that varnish... Well done Rich!

Sailing on Lake Erie
Bob Spicer is extending an open invitation to all Mirror sailors to join him and his friend Noel on Lake Erie, 23rd of August and 13th of September 2008. They'll be at the Cleveland Lakefront State Park – Edgewater Park Ramp. The links below help locate the ramp. It is right next to the Cleveland Edgewater Yacht Club on it's east side. These places are located just west ( a few miles) of downtown Cleveland.

The ramps are public and have direct access to Lake Erie. Bob and Noel will be there from 8:00 a.m. until mid to late afternoon. If the water is too rough there is a several mile long break wall to sail behind. Sailors should make sure they have all the right boat licenses because that ramp is patrolled.
For now they are considering it just a group sail, however if there is enough interest they could attempt some fun racing! Anyone interested should contact Bob - just email us via the 'Contact Us' page and we'll pass it on. Alternatively respond to the post in the USMirrorsailing Yahoo group.

New Burgee Design
Following the recent suggestion on the Yahoo Group, we asked a specialist company - Yachtflag Company - to design us a burgee using our logo and this is what they came up with:
The burgees would be sewn together with embroidered stars, measure 12" x 18" and be priced at $24 each. You can see photo galleries of burgees they have made for other customers here and their products look to be very high quality and are made here in the USA. We need a minimum order of 12 so please let us know if you would be interested in buying one.

US Mirror Sailing celebrates it's first birthday!
The coming of May means we've now been been in existance for over a year. During that time we've built up a membership of 45 people across the USA and a registry of 34 boats. We've also been featured in Classic Boat magazine, seen the Yahoo Group take on a life of it's own and we're planning the first events for the summer season. We'll be adding a new Events page to the website shortly.
Ohio and New England continue to be the Mirror hotspots. Bob Spicer is looking to get some boats sailing together in Ohio, so please contact him via our Contact Us page if you're interested. In New England we're planning a get together on Long Island in August for the inaugural Peconic River Cruise event. Details still being finalized.
US Mirror Sailing has a new logo
Following a poll of USMS members a new logo has been chosen which can now be seen at the masthead of this web page. Many thanks to all those who voted - it was a close race but thankfully no protest flags were shown. Option 3 caught a tow from Option 2 to breeze over the line at the last minute...
New Mirror Book
A new Mirror book co-written by Tim Davison and UK National Mirror Coach, Peter Aitken should be available in the US from the 4th of August. To quote the publishers "Its the definitive, full colour guide and covers everything a mirror sailor could need to know – from rigging ( gaff and Bermuda), tuning, how to sail.... racing tactics, fitness and more". We've also heard it billed as an update to Guy Wilkin's excellent book on Mirror Racing - we're looking forward to reading it!
